Nicolás Maduro
With his popularity battered by food shortages, economic chaos and rampant crime, it is hard to
understand how Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro has clung to power and why he is still there.
What is keeping the socialist leader in place as his country is collapsing? And when, if ever, will
Venezuela reach the tipping point? There are many questions about Maduro and his actions ever
since and more these past years, when the world changed the perspective about the great
Venezuela. But who is that man called “president”? Nicolás Maduro Moros is the 63rd President of
Venezuela. Having assumed office in 2013, he has proven to be a highly controversial leader. He has
been criticized and accused of being dictatorial, which has led to a severe decline in Venezuela's not
just in social aspects but also affecting the economic situation, along with rising crime, inflation,
poverty and hunger. Before he became a politician, he had worked for several years as a bus driver.
In this position, he became a union leader and soon ventured into the mainstream of politics. In 2000,
he was elected to the National Assembly. Nicolas Maduro, despite not knowing any foreign language,
had also served as Foreign Minister of Venezuela for a period of six years, after which he was
appointed Vice President by then President Hugo Chávez. Later, when Chavez had cancer, he
realized that he might not survive, he decided that Maduro would succeed him. Since Maduro
assumed the presidency, he has continued the policies of his predecessor. His government has been
criticized by the media, and has also led to nationwide protests, which led to many disturbs. Despite
these incidents, Maduro has continued as president, however, his current lack of popularity and his
erratic behavior as a commander in chief should determine that Maduro is not up to be in such a role,
rather than continuing being the clown he is.
Now, for those who actually claim that Nicolas Maduro is a madman, a look at his previous actions
should be taken in order to determine not to take him serious, belittling him, which is what he is
precisely looking for. That is his strategy to mislead opponents. Venezuela’s President Nicolás
Maduro, like his mentor Hugo Chavez, is usually known as crazy for what he says and for what he
does. And this is because he is often illogical, irresponsible and goes against all common sense that
does not give to think more. But there is no worse mistake than to believe that he is gross or crazy.
Maduro shows the world that he is a stupid man. He learned from Chavez the art of saying what he
does not think, what he does not believe, what is inexplicable, the opposite of truth and the evidence
without the least shame. Maduro is not insane or stupid as much as he tries to make us believe. He is
ignorant, that is something different. The only thing he cannot dissimulate is his infinite ignorance in
confusing a call for help with a pronoun, being illiterate with literacy, the genre of words and measures
of length with those of time, without cultural behaviors that produces shame for others.
Instead, Venezuela’s president has taken advantage of the situation to get to where he is. According
to the dictionary cunning means clever, in the sense of trickery. Because it is needed
to be very clever and also to be cunning to start working as one of the Caracas subway driver and
then turn to be a country president. All he did was to climb positions, to seek and take advantage of
opportunities, to remove potential rivals out of the way and only God knows about what else he has
done and what he plans to do. Cunning is jointed with the word cynicism, defined by the same
dictionary as, "shamelessness in lying or in the defense and practice of vituperable actions or
doctrines." That cunning and cynicism puts him at the service of a cause: to remain in power. Maduro
and his mafia of smugglers, drug dealers and corrupt already have a plan A, B, C and until Z to
destabilize the next legislative elections in Venezuela, in which they would lose the majority of the
parliament.
And as part of his perverse script will be invented any excuse, no matter how incredible it sounds, to
set up confrontations with Colombia, Spain, United States, or anyone who is not with his interests.
